Engineering
Practical and Personal From the Start

College of Arts and Sciences
Location: Crete
Degree Type: Undergraduate

Personal attention meets practical opportunities in our four-year program specifically designed to give you an edge in the engineering industry. Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà engineering students focus on practice-based learning, which gives you more opportunities to apply classroom knowledge to solving real-world problems. All while working with experienced faculty who care about your success.

Develop a firm understanding in science and math, and complement that foundation with the practical skills necessary to find solutions. Our curriculum gives students hands-on experience applying engineering principles to real problems from introductory courses through the senior research and engineering design courses. We teach our students to develop critical-thinking strategies. And we emphasize project management and quality control techniques that are widely used in many areas of industry and commerce.

Access the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà Engineering Idea Lab for coursework or your own personal projects. Our program encourages the entrepreneurial spirit and produces ethical  problem-solvers, no matter what path they choose after graduation.

Real-World Design Experiences

Students are able to participate in authentic design experiences throughout our engineering program. In addition to our senior design capstone project sequence, students also engage in semester-long projects throughout the program. With small class sizes, even many of our regular classes include projects focused on solving real-world problems as a team. These projects give students the experience and skills needed to be successful after graduation.

Cutting Edge Undergraduate Research

Our undergraduates have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà faculty on research projects. Students gain valuable lab experience that puts them ahead in their career and also prepares them for graduate school. Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà has many funded opportunities such as the INBRE Scholar Program for students interested in biomedical research, the LSAMP research program to support under-represented students, and the NSF-funded IRES program where students can conduct summer research in Germany.

Dual Degree Engineering Program

In addition to Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ’s BS in Engineering major, the dual degree program allows a student to pursue special admission to discipline-specific engineering degrees at our affiliated institutions.  Typically, students spend 3 years at Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and 2 years at either Washington University in St. Louis or Columbia University to earn two bachelor’s degrees.   Students can also add one more year to also add a master’s degree at WashU in a 3-3 option.   For more details, visit or .
