We asked faculty from Crete, Lincoln and Omaha to recommend graduating seniors in spring '22 who stood out in their classes. These students — our Featured Tigers — are just a few of the many talented and driven leaders from Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ's undergraduate and graduate programs. View all Featured Tigers here.

First off — congratulations! How do you feel as you head into the next phase of your life?
I am very proud of this accomplishment and excited for what lies ahead of me. My time at Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà University seemed to fly by. I still have not fully processed all the emotions of concluding this chapter in my life. During this time, I have had so many people supporting me and gained a solid base to take on the world confidently.
What’s your next step after graduation?
I will be taking a gap year before applying to pharmacy school to obtain my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. During this time, I will continue gaining experience by working in a pharmacy as a technician. I plan on doing some traveling and looking into more certification programs.
How has attending Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà prepared you for your next steps?
Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà University has really catalyzed my personal growth and maturity as well as my knowledge. I have had the opportunity to explore and more importantly to fail. Learning how to get knocked down and stand back up is a skill I can attribute to Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà University.
My studies of the sciences at Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà have provided me with the ability to think critically and follow logic. I have had the pleasure of studying life at so many different scales which has allowed me to make connections with the world around me. I have made long-lasting connections at Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and can move forward knowing that I have a group of supporters with me at every step of the way.
What do you consider the best part of your Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà experience?
The atmosphere of the Lied Science and Mathematics Building often comes to mind when I reflect on my time at Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ. The scientific community here is really special and feels like a family more than just peers. There was always something very exciting happening in the walls of Lied and the open communication among students/faculty allowed great collaborations to form. I always felt comfortable and at home wherever I was in Lied.
What is something you’re proud of achieving or accomplishing while at Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ?
I am very proud of being awarded the Robert C. Makosky Prize for my commitment to my studies in biochemistry. This award was the perfect culmination to my undergraduate career. I have been able to find success in my studies while being a student athlete, and I am very honored to be recognized.
Who was a major influence for you during your education here, and how have they helped you?
Dr. Tessa Durham Brooks was a huge part of my success at Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ. She always went above and beyond her role as an educator for me and so many others. Countless times, Tessa would make space in her busy schedule to give life advice, answer any questions, and push me to be my best. Starting freshman year, Tessa constantly urged me to challenge myself and helped me come out of my shell. Many times, Tessa would ask me about life as a student and do anything in her capacity to make life better for all of us. I will always be thankful for her compassion, sincerity, and friendship.
What will you miss the most about being a Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà student?
I will miss the people I met along the way the most. It is a bittersweet feeling knowing we will all be parting ways and forging our own paths. I have made some lifelong friends during my time as a Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà student and will definitely be staying in touch with them.
What advice would you give to incoming students?
I encourage incoming students to begin their time at Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà with a curious mind. Go learn about something you know nothing about, ask a million questions, and find an area that you have a passion for. Build relationships with your fellow students, faculty, and community. Most importantly, enjoy the little moments and slow down to appreciate how far you've come in your journey.
Finishing a degree is tough to begin with, but especially so in recent years — what has helped you overcome the challenges of the past three semesters?
My friends and family have allowed me to see past the recent challenges that we all have faced. With so many aspects of our lives turned upside down, I made it a goal to connect more with my family and appreciate what I have more than what has been taken away.
Hardships can really put things into perspective. Throughout this experience, I have learned the value of having my own back, having a goal in mind, and how to push through adversity.
Finally — what are you most excited about for your future?
I am most excited about using the tools I have acquired to continue my education in healthcare. I have major goals to strive towards and want to make an impact on as many lives as I can. I will always pursue opportunities to gain a better understanding of the world around me and look forward to starting my pharmacy program in the near future.
